Los bioestimulantes hacen referencia a un amplio concepto, ya que hablamos de sustancias y/o microorganismos cuya función es estimular los procesos naturales que mejoran la absorción y asimilación de nutrientes, tratar el estrés abiótico o mejorar algunas de sus características agronómicas. El objetivo del uso de los bioestimulantes es conseguir cosechas de mejor calidad y dar solución a algunos de los problemas más comunes de los cultivos, como falta de humedad, poca luz, desfases de temperatura, etc., los cuales pueden provocar pérdidas en su valor comercial. La principal diferencia entre los bioestimulantes y los fertilizantes es que, mientras los clásicos fertilizantes aportan nutrientes a las plantas, la función de los bioestimulantes es una protección y acción completa.
